Sustainability strategy
The Wildschönau Tourism Association has set itself the goal of being a role model and driving force for sustainable action.
Together with our partners, we want to expand and develop a sustainable tourism and living space in the Wildschönau.
Value creation through appreciation
The Wildschönau 2030 future strategy, which was developed jointly by the Wildschönau Tourist office, the municipal office and the Wildschönau cable cars, focuses on the guiding principle of value creation through appreciation. This refers to the following focal points:
- We are proud of our attractive and intact living, working and leisure space = Wildschönau as a place to live and work in
- Value creation by offering and selling what we have (tourism, agriculture, etc.) at a correspondingly high value.
- The attractive and intact habitat is both a great value and a great responsibility.
- Tourism makes a significant contribution to the future quality of our living space.
- The aim of tourism development is to sustainably strengthen the quality of life and economic power of the Wildschönau.
- To further develop the Wildschönau as a desirable brand.
- To create proud self-confidence for the quality of the Wildschönau.
- To celebrate and preserve the authentic lifestyle in a contemporary and lively way.
- To promote and involve the next generation of tourism professionals in all areas of the community.
- To strengthen our living space for guests and residents alike.
- To foster and strengthen cooperation between stakeholders (municipality, tourism, cable cars, etc.).
The Wildschönau Tourism Association supports its accommodation partners with various sustainability measures. Since 2022, for example, there has been start-up funding for all accommodations that implement the Austrian Ecolabel in combination with the EU Ecolabel.

Quality initiatives
There are also quality initiatives that receive financial support. For example, the Austrian Hiking Seal of Quality, Family Nest Partners, wheelchair-accessible accommodation and bike-friendly accommodation are supported.
Regionality
There are numerous small producers of high-quality food and drink in the Wildschönau. These are promoted and supported by the Wildschönau Tourism Association through various measures. Enjoyment packages for gifts for guests aged 15 and over are available exclusively from the farm store in Oberau. Farm-gate products such as cheese, Krautinger and many more are advertised via various channels. At the catering level, the “Bewusst Tirol” quality scheme has been promoted since 2022.
There are already numerous member businesses here, which are constantly being expanded.
Sustainable and regional gifts
The Wildschönau Tourism Association places particular emphasis on honorary gifts and sustainable giveaways that are produced regionally and in a resource-saving manner, especially regional food.
Printed materials
The Wildschönau focuses on sustainable print materials and promotional items, most of which are sourced from Austria. The majority are produced in Tyrol by printing companies located within a 50 km radius, certified with the Austrian Eco-Label. We carefully manage production quantities to ensure no surplus remains, achieved through annual optimizations.
Starting in 2024, no host directories will be produced to conserve resources. Since November 2024, we have also offered the Wildschönau Card in digital format, significantly reducing the use of printed paper. From November 2025, paper registration forms will no longer be used. From that time, only digital guest registrations will be permitted in Tyrol.
These buses run 365 days a year: every hour in the Wildschönau, including a connection to Wörgl train station. In summer, there is also a hiking bus to Roggenboden, Thierbach and Schönangeralm. In winter, a closely timed ski bus runs in the valley from mid-December to the end of March. If you travel to Wörgl by train, the Wildschönau Tourist Association works together with Four Season Travel. Guests can book a train station shuttle to all villages in the Wildschönau at a low fixed rate. With the Wildschönau Card, guests have a free mobility offer included all year round.

To the statistics
Around 90% of overnight stays in the Wildschönau are generated from 5 countries of origin. Germany leads here with around 60%, ahead of the Netherlands with 14% and Great Britain with 6%. Austria follows with 5% and Belgium with 4%. In the future, the share from Austria and Switzerland in particular is to be expanded as local markets, resulting in shorter journeys and a lower CO2 footprint. With a length of stay of around 5 days (many weekly guests), the Wildschönau has a significantly longer length of stay than Tyrol. This also means significantly fewer arrivals and departures and therefore fewer CO2 emissions.
Energy from the Wildschönau
All infrastructure facilities (tourist office, swimming pool, tennis court, building yard, etc.) of the Wildschönau Tourist Association are supplied with electricity by the local energy provider Elektro Stadler. Most of this energy is generated from local hydropower.
Responsible use of the natural environment
The Wildschönau Tourism Association spends a number of working hours all year round on the maintenance and preservation of the Wildschönau recreational area. In the case of major repairs and redesigns, we take particular care to ensure that compatible interventions are made in consultation with the nature conservation authority so that nature can continue to preserve its original state.
Infrastructure measures
Construction materials used for the ongoing maintenance of cycle and hiking trails, rest areas and the like are sourced almost exclusively from Tyrolean companies. This ensures that a large part of the added value remains in the region and that short transport routes are maintained.
Events
The Wildschönau Tourism Association has set itself the goal of keeping the amount of waste as low as possible at all events where it acts as organizer. Reusable cups and mugs are primarily used for drinks, finger food and plastic-free crockery for food. We cooperate with local clubs and restaurants to ensure that the majority of the added value remains in the region. Free bus shuttles to and from the event ensure that individual traffic is kept to a minimum.
Social responsibility
The Wildschönau Tourism Association supports charitable organizations and institutions annually that assist people in difficult situations and provide valuable contributions to the community. These include, among others: Auffach Mountain Rescue, Wörgl-Niederau Mountain Rescue, Diakonie Austria, Samariterbund Tyrol, Wildschönau Social Welfare Organization
