Auffach Wildschönau
The fourth village in the Wildschönau, Auffach, is located at 875 m altitude. Auffach is the direct access to the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski resort. In the past Auffach was the center of the local timber industry, in fact the village name means "wood hauling". The Schönanger Alm is located 5 kilometers from the village at the end of the valley and is a special nature and recreation area on the high meadows.
Summer tips
In summer, the Schatzberg village of Auffach is the ideal starting point for hikes.
The cable car leads to the mountain of the same name, from where tours and circular trails start.
Popular hiking routes lead from the Schönanger Alm on the end of the valley to the Breitegg, Sonnjoch or the highest of the Wildschönau peaks, the Grosser Beil mountains (2309 meters). After a beautiful hike, make a stop at the local show dairy next to the Schönanger restaurant.
Winter tips
Auffach is the ski centre of the Wildschönau. The Schatzberg cable car leads into the heart of the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area, directly from the village centre. 113 km of ski runs and 46 lifts provide skiing fun. The valley run comes back down to the village centre too. An exciting toboggan run starts at the mid station of the Schatzberg cable car. Cross-country skiing as well as winter hikes and horse drawn sleigh rides to the romantic Schönanger Alm offer recreation possibilities away from the slopes.
